While procedures and guidance are very important, they cannot in themselves protect children.

A competent, skilled and confident workforce together with vigilant members of the public can.

If your work brings you or your staff into touch with children and families, it’s very important that you have the skills and knowledge you need to protect them.

In addition to identifying your training and development needs and receiving the right training, keep in touch with other opportunities to learn, for example, from the outcome of significant case reviews or national research.

Welcome to SLCPC Self-Learning Pack – Understanding Child Protection which forms a key part of SLCPC training materials and offers essential information on child protection issues for those who are new to their organisation and are awaiting to attend a training event with us. The pack is a learning tool to ensure those involved in the protection of children and young people, whether directly or indirectly, have some knowledge of child protection. The information contained within the pack should always be treated as FIRST STEP information for those with an interest in child protection and does not replace the need to take the further learning steps you may need.
